Hilary, I have only come across this, years later and reading with great sadness. This is a loss to us all but you have lost a brilliant partner and a wonderful support and love in your life. I remember seeing you both after my father death and the sense of loss that I still feel. I find some comfort that I saw how happy and loving you were together, and I will remember that day. I am lost for words and sad for your loss. I cannot imagine the world without Richard. A great human.

I had the pleasure of working with Richard as accountant for one of his charitable projects. He was such a gentleman and I will miss our conversations.

Richard was always charming m , kind and thoughtful and gave many valuable hours to helping make both Westside Tennis Club and WImbledon Squash and Badminton club so successful. He was always interested in the team results and would invariably stop by to support and watch our progress. We were very lucky to have the benefit of his wisdom as Chairman and my thoughts are with all his family. JB

I was on the committee at Westside when Richard was chairman, he was always a great supporter of the club and in particular the success of our teams, which I was heavily involved in. I was sorry to hear of his passing, he was a lovely man and will be sorely missed. CJ

Richard was a very special man, and the best step-dad one could hope for. His calm demeanour with the occasional interjection of wry wit made him a veritable Mr. Bennet in our mixed house of madness. You were my fellow Jane Austen and chess enthusiast and, while I never managed to beat you, I will keep trying to improve. Thank you for your never-wavering support, advice and love during my worst and best times.

My husband Richard's attitude to using his interests and talents for helping others was second to none: hence his various roles over the years. To name but a few: - Founder member of the Imperial College (London University) SCR Wine Tasting Society. - Treasurer of the Imperial College Students' Chaplaincy Residences. - Chairman of Wimbledon Squash and Badminton Club. - Chairman of Westside Tennis Club, Wimbledon. - Chairman of the Edge Hill and Darlaston Road Residents' Association, Wimbledon. - Chairman of the Florence Nightingale International Foundation (UK) Charity. All of this was done whilst running his own Bank Risk Management Consultancy, authoring learned textbooks on Swaps and Financial Derivatives, conducting countless professional training sessions and advising Boards and Senior Managers of financial institutions, particularly in the developing markets. A deeply spiritual man, he is survived by his two sons, his two stepdaughters and me. He will be sorely missed.

On behalf of the Board of the Florence Nightingale International Foundation (FNIF) and the International Council of Nurses (ICN), we wish to express our sincere sympathies. Richard was committed and dedicated to the aims of FNIF, in particular the Girl Child Education Fund and we are grateful for all of his support over the years. One of my favourite memories of Richard is an evening he and Hill came over to Thark for dinner to choose wine for our wedding. Nobody else had any intention of choosing anything other than what Richard told us too, and it was a hilarious evening. Rest in peace, from Elizabeth, Michael, Cormac, Finbar, Ruaidrí and Daire.

I have had the privilage to know Richard through his excellent work with the Florence Nightingle Foundation of the International Council of Nurses. He was committed to support the goals of the foundation and for a few years have chaired the Foundation. His caring and drive was and will continue to be appreciated. I met Richard only a few times. I was honoured to share such a happy day when he married my cousin Hilary. He was clearly kind, loving, and a wonderful companion. And such a very full life led. Having known Richard for some years I shall miss his dry sharp sense of humour. Those quiet comments that make you think twice and of course someone who would share the beetroot surprise at dinner

It was a great privilege to have known Richard for so many years as a friend, both on and off the tennis court. He was always very generous with his time and advice on both business and personal matters. We have shared many wonderful bottles of wine together whilst setting the world to rights. From marvelling at his sports car when I was 5 to spending happy summers and Christmasses at Edge Hill, playing with Rascal and laughing round the dinner table, I have many fond memories of Richard that will stay with me forever. He inspired and shaped my love for Mathematics: I remember comparing our experiences of the British Maths Olympiad, though we sat it 50 years apart; I remember him explaining the concept and applications of optimisation to me after I said we had just started calculus at school when I was 14; I remember his advice that a true mathematician seeks truth over convenient fantasies and to strive for elegance in proofs. Richard’s immense kindness never wavered, even when he was in pain, he continued to help me, most recently in preparing for my application and interviews to study Maths at Oxford over this last year. He will be missed very much, I know his words and legacy will stay with and guide me forever.

We remember spending time in his beautiful home on Edge Hill. He was a warm, happy and generous host who ran the Edge Hill Residents Association with great skill and kindness. His memory is there for us when ever we walk past the house. Our condolences to all his family, Paula and Andrew Aarons

Richard has been a close friend and mentor to my mum for many years. When I turned 18 and asked my mum for a one way ticket to the UK; it must have been a great comfort for her knowing that Richard was close by should I need any help. For the 18 years that I have lived here it has been a great comfort for me too. Richard was a perfect gentleman, a great mind, kind, generous and told stories of a life well lived. He will be missed by me and many others. Sending love to those closest to him.

Richard, you were the calmest, most thoughtful person. You were able to frame issues. You were one of the best mathematicians ever, because you could explain complex issues in a simple way and frame the problem. You provided input and guidance during my career over many years. I will miss our conversations and our work together. You were also a good friend and we had good times together. I will always remember our sushi lunch in London, when I inhaled a bit too much of the wasabi and spent much of the time in tears. You just chuckled.
